Some external factors, such as lifestyle, can also alter melanocyte activity and cause premature greying of the hair, by generating high and/or chronic oxidative stress.

SILVERFREE™, a biomimetic lipopeptide, restores the natural pigmentation of grey hair after 3 months of use. It increases the amount of melanin produced in the hair follicle (x 11.7/control, p<0.01) while protecting cells from oxidative stress (-25%/ control, p<0.01).

On 3 different panels, SILVERFREE™ visibly decreased white hair density (-32.43%/T0 up to -80%, p<0.01) and gradually deepened the original hair colour thus preventing the “root effect”. It has also demonstrated a remnant effect thus maintaining hair repigmentation for at least 4 months after the last application of the product.

SEDERMA is the creator of SILVERFREE™ as well as the global expert in the peptide technology. The micropeptide sequence which comprises SILVERFREE™ is found in human proteins. 

Stimulates melanin production in the hair bulb

SILVERFREE™ complements the wide range of peptides that SEDERMA already provides to the global cosmetic industry with activities targeting the dermal and epidermal layers of the skin (e.g. peptides from the Matrixyl® and Crystalide® family).

SILVERFREE™ acts on another skin compartment: the hair follicle. This peptide stimulates melanin synthesis in the melanocytes, the cells responsible for hair colour.

SILVERFREE™ stimulates melanocytes’ defence mechanisms against oxidative stress and the resulting cellular damage.


Efficacy confirmed by four studies

It was observed during the test that the product induced significant repigmentation of the hair in several dozen people included in this trial. Repigmentation is not dependent on the site of application; significant effects were observed at the temples, on the top and at the back of the head.

This effect is not dependent on the test site or the quantification methods used, since all 4 studies, conducted independently of each other, showed a clear repigmenting effect in almost all the volunteers. The female panel was small for technical reasons: the need to cut the hair 2 cm from the scalp at the time of the measurements, the need for volunteers to accept having white hair for several weeks and not using hair colour treatments, etc. Therefore, these statistics are difficult to obtain, but in the majority of cases, repigmentation was observed in the women, just like the men. 

After 3 months of application, grey hair density decreased by up to 38.7%. These decreases were highly significan and involved almost all the volunteers.

Reduces hair’s grey appearance and actively prevents hair greying

An isolated hair was collected from a volunteer at T3 months on which repigmentation was observed. This hair is about 2 cm long and shows a significant difference between the tip and the bulb. New part of the hair grown in original color.
